Lube Mobile Hygiene Practices When Servicing Customers Vehicles

There is evidence that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads from person to person, some reports suggest the virus can last for several days on surfaces including plastics found in vehicles.


Good hygiene can prevent infection from coronavirus as well as the common cold and flu.


With this in mind we wish to share with you what practices Lube Mobile have put in place to ensure the safety of our Customers and of our staff.


Prior to working inside a vehicle, the Lube Mobile technician will use the following procedure;


  1. The technician will check with you whether you have been overseas and ordered to comply with a self-isolation order.

  2. Disinfect car. 

  3. Disinfect hands. 

  4. Where possible avoid switching on HAVAC system (air conditioning / heater control). 


Disinfect Car

  1. Disinfect outside door handle prior to entering the vehicle. 

  2. Spray or wipe all relevant areas inside the vehicle. 

  3. Allow disinfectant to sit for up to 10mins to dry by airing out the vehicle. 

  4. Conduct works inside the vehicle.

  5. When the work is finished we will give the vehicle a final spray or wipe prior to returning the vehicle to you (including outside door handle). 


Parts of the Vehicle to be Disinfected

  1. Door handle (outside first then inside). 

  2. Steering wheel. 

  3. Radio and other control buttons and indicators. 

  4. Seat belt. 

  5. Any other areas we may need to touch when working inside the vehicle (i.e. glove box handles, drink holders, dashboard, hand brake and gears etc.) 


Disinfect Hands

  1. We will use hand sanitiser or washing of hands prior to entering the vehicle. 

  2. After completing the work we will Sanitise our hands thoroughly and close the door to the vehicle. 


Payment and Invoicing

  1. No Cash payments. Our strong preference is payment by card via the tap and go facility. 

  2. Printing of invoices and quotes will cease and we will instead email them to you.

Carburettor Repair

If your car is not running as smoothly as it should and it ‘hiccups’ while running, it could be that you’re in need of a carburettor repair. The carburettor (also known as a carbie) is how the engine receives fuel, or rather, how it mixes the fuel and air together before it is injected into the engine block.

A carburettor is a part of the fuel system, as technology has become more advanced the carburettor has become increasingly complicated. In old cars carbies were quite simple, they involved a fuel reservoir and an injector and were situated between the air filter and the intake manifold. When you look inside a carburettor, you’ll see a paddle (called the throttle plate) that is controlled by the accelerator cable. While modern carburettors work in a similar way, the overall unit has become what may appear to be a maze of pipes and plumbing work. They can be difficult to work on unless you are very confident with what you’re doing.

For the signs of needing a carburettor repair, you’ll need to examine the car while it is idling, running at speed, and how the car handles during acceleration. If you’re waiting at traffic lights and the car suddenly cuts out and is difficult to restart, this could be a carburettor problem. This is caused by fuel not being able to be mixed properly while the car is idling. If you are driving on the highway and the engine seems to cut out and then after a short distance starts running again and you have enough fuel, the carburettor could be to blame. You might experience a similar feeling when accelerating, the engine appears to cut out and cease running. If any of these are happening, you are likely in need of a carburettor service.

One of the most unfortunate things about needing a carburettor repair is that it will often leave you stranded as the car will not run. It may run poorly and give you just enough to get home, but it is likely to be a very bumpy ride!

How to Clean a Carburettor?

In order to clean a carburettor, it is best to remove it from the car and disassemble it. There are some cleaners that can be used while the car is running, and they may do an okay job. However, it is not something that we would recommend and could potentially make your problem worse. Having a Lube Mobile mechanic perform a proper carburettor repair is the best option.

Once the carburettor is removed from the car, it will be disassembled into its core components. The intake manifold will be inspected for any wear or other problems. Then the carburettor can be cleaned and serviced. In most cases this involves taking the bowl off the carburettor, then the internal workings can be inspected to make sure they are working properly. In most cases it will be a pin that has worn, or has become sticky, and will not let fuel into the bowl, so it can flow into the engine.

After these parts are inspected, and either replaced or cleaned the carbie can be put back together and reinstalled on the engine. Then everything is tested, and your carburettor repair is completed.

How to Service a Car Carburettor?

Having a carburettor service is more involved than a basic clean. As a carburettor has many moving parts all of these will need to be inspected to make sure they’re working properly. If your car is idling poorly it could be that the carburettor is not mixing the fuel correctly. Does the car sound rough in any way? Too much fuel and not enough air is a common problem of a malfunctioning carburettor, and a clear sign that it needs to be serviced and brought back to the ideal settings for your vehicle.

In properly servicing a carburettor you will need to measure how much fuel is being mixed. Some skilled mechanics can do this based on experience, but the more appropriate way is to use a specific tool that can tell what ratio the fuel and air are mixing at. By using this tool and working with the adjustment screws on the body of the carburettor, the correct settings can be tuned. The service may also include replacing the fuel filter and other small parts.
